Bill's Story

Bill Rockne Poling, 73, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away on March 3, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. Bill passed after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
He was born February 4, 1944, to Bill and Duwanna (Longanecker) Poling in Van Nuys, California. In 1948 the family moved to Springdale, Arkansas, where Bill excelled on the football field as part of the state championship team his senior year.
He married Rea Dawn (Jacobs) Youngker on March 17, 1985. When they met, it was love at first sight for both of them, and they would have celebrated their 32nd anniversary this year.
Bill was a veteran. He served four years in the United States Air Force in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He later worked for Fife Corporation before moving to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to work for Mercury Marine as a machinist and quality control engineer. Bill retried from Mercury Marine in 1997. After a short retirement, he worked at Ditch Witch for eight years, and his final employment was with Stillwater National Bank.
He was a devoted member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Stillwater where he served in several leadership capacities.
Through the years, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding dirt bikes, and playing golf. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football. He later developed a passion for softball as granddaughter Bailey became very involved in the sport.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Duwanna Poling, and his grandson Brook Johnson.
Bill is survived by his spouse, Rea Dawn, daughters Sheila Dorn and husband Jon, Volarie-Ann Nichols and husband Jim, Christine Murphy and husband David, and Jeree Gilman and husband Richard, son Blake Youngker ,and sister Cindy Strawser and husband Fran.
Other survivors include grandchildren Brandon Johnson and wife Michele, Bailey Harmon and husband Mat, Carley Sweeten, Kenny Dixon, Dustin and Shane Murphy, plus two great-grandchildren, Brodie and Jaycie Harmon, and additional family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Judith Karman Hospice for their loving care and support during Bill's extended illness.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Stillwater. Pastor Rusty Rhoads will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in Bill's name to the Calvary Assembly of God Church's children's ministries.
