Dale was born in Glencoe, Oklahoma to Russell Leland and Faye Irene Murphy on July 19, 1929, along with his twin brother, Gale. They had two sisters, Irene and Lorene and lived on the family farm.
Dale was valedictorian of his high school class and went on to Oklahoma A & M in September of 1946. He studied accounting and received his degree in May 1950. He passed the CPA exam in November 1950 at the age of 21. That same month he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country stateside during the Korean conflict. Upon his return to civilian life, he went on to work for various corporations as an international tax accountant, travelling the world as part of his assignments. In 1956, he married Jimmie Joan Oakley of Fort Worth, Texas. They had six children: Kevin, Bryan, Karen, Shawn, Kelly, and Dale Edward.
After retiring from corporate accounting, he returned to Glencoe to farm and raise cattle. He continued in the family tradition of growing "Murphy Melons" for several years. Additionally, he continued to act as an accountant by preparing individual tax returns out of his home.
He enjoyed traveling, dancing and was an avid sports fan.
He was proceeded in death by two of his children, Bryan and Kelly; both parents; his twin brother, and two sisters.
He is survived by son Kevin (wife Karen) of North Richland Hills, Texas; daughter, Karen of Yukon, Oklahoma; son, Shawn (wife Paula) of Wichita, Kansas, and Dale Edward (wife Leslie); eight grandchildren, Hilary, Barik, Tim, Cole, Katie, Doran, Leland, and Allie; seven great grandchildren.
