Dr. Charles O. Hopkins
May 23, 1934 - September 11, 2016

Dr. Charles O. "Chuck" Hopkins, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, educator and friend died Sunday, September 11, 2016. Chuck was born in Eufaula, OK on May 23, 1934 to Lonnie and Wynoma Hopkins. Chuck spent his childhood in Morris, OK where he graduated from Morris High School in 1952. In 1954, he received an Associate of Science degree from Conners State College. Fulfilling his patriotic duty Chuck joined the United States Air Force in 1955 where he completed Electronic Technician School. Always a devoted Oklahoma State Cowboy, Chuck received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education and a Master of Science degree in Agriculture Economics from Oklahoma State University. In 1970, he received his Doctorate of Education in Agriculture Education, Organization and Adminstration from OSU.
Devoted to education, Chuck started his career as a vocational agriculture instructor at Delaware and Morris Oklahoma. From 1969-1999, he worked for the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education in Stillwater, OK. During this tenure he served as the Assistant State Director and Coordinator of Planning for the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education. He also established the Planning, Management, and Performance Appraisal system for the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education as well as managed the largest division in the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education.
Although he spent his life in Oklahoma, Chuck's contributions to education went far beyond just the state of Oklahoma. His devotion to education benefited the United States and internationally. Nationally, he conducted Planning, Management, and Performance Systems workshops for 40 state Vocational and Technical Education agencies and was the recipient of two U.S. Department of Education grants to establish management systems in 28 state Vocational Education agencies. Globally he served as a planning team member for RCA to develop a vocational technical training program for Egypt, served as a member of a study team for the German apprenticeship system in Berlin, Germany and was a consulting team member evaluating secondary vocational and technical programs in the United Arab Emirates.
In 1961, Chuck married his first love L. Faye McCaslin. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters Pamela Lynette and Terri Belinda. Much too soon, his wife and daughter Pamela preceded him in death. In 2000, Chuck found love again and married Teresa Humphrey.
He is survived by his wife Teresa, his daughter Terri and his grandchildren Alyssa, Alex and Anthony. He is also survived by Teresa's son Tom, his wife Mishelle and children Jessica, Andrea and Jacob and daughter Traci and her son Timothy. He is also survived by his brother Lonnie Hopkins and sisters Mary King and Hugh Ann Goodacre.
A memorial service will be held, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 2:00 at First United Methodist Church, Stillwater, OK.
