Dr. Lloyd Garrison
He is survived by one daughter, Jill Cambern, husband Rex Cambern and one granddaughter, Tracy Eckerson, husband Rick Eckerson and 2 great grandchildren, Alexis and Chase. He was married to his wife Irene, for twenty-seven years who passed away in 1973.
At age sixteen his father gave him $30.00 to start college and by working and scholarships, earned his B.S at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and his Doctorate at the University of Missouri. He also spent three years in the Navy during WWII with service on the Battleship Idaho in the south central Pacific, receiving 5 battle stars. He taught two years in high schools and two years at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri before joining the faculty in the College of Business at Oklahoma State University in 1951. He served as professor and Department Head and the last four years as a Regents Service Professor before retiring in 1986.
Dr. Garrison had some fifty articles published in the professional journals and also authored two paperback booklets; one dealing with business education for academically talented students and the other concerning the teaching of economics in the general business course.
Dr. Garrison received many honors and awards during his career, but is especially proud to receive the first Outstanding Teacher award in the College of Business and recently having a conference room named after him in the new business building at Oklahoma State University.
During his retirement years Dr. Garrison was a volunteer for 20 years at Hospice, both in Stillwater and Oklahoma City. He served as an Income Tax Counselor for the elderly, taught the 55-alive Mature Driving Class and served as a Court Mediator. He was also on the evaluation team of business colleges for an accrediting commission in Washington, D.C. Since 2004 Dr. Garrison has lived at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City.
