F. Jeanne's Story

F. Jeanne Nelson, age 94, of Columbus, formerly of Stillwater, OK passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital with her children by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gordon L. Nelson, their beloved daughter, Janet, and 3 siblings, Lucille Wise Jacobs, Joseph Wise Jr., and Marilynne Wise Mueller. She is survived by her children, Gordon Nelson Jr., Carol (Jim) Nelson Earl, Linda Nelson Ochsner, David A. (Nancy) Nelson, and Barbara (Jim) Nelson Pumphrey; 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.   She will always be remembered by her children, grandchildren and all of those lives she touched for her deep and abiding Christian faith, her Godly wisdom, her sense of humor and her readiness to help anyone in need.  Jeanne was one of the first female students in Civil Engineering at University of Minnesota. During WWII She worked for the Department of the Navy, Bureau of Ships. She was an active church member both of First Baptist Church, Stillwater, OK and the former Lane Avenue Baptist Church (now The Crossing Community Church) where she taught Sunday school for most of her adult life. When her children were young she served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother.  She loved to knit and pursued her hobby until days before her death, knitting stockings for her children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren and their spouses, and most recently was working on one for her 18th great grandchild - a gift each one cherishes in remembrance of her.  Family will receive friends Monday, September 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd.  Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2016.  At the same location, with Reverend, Wayne I. Nicholson officiating.  Interment will follow immediately at Kingwood Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers contributions in Jeanne's memory may be made to The Crossing Community Church or the Salvation Army.
