Gerald Lanford Mastin

November 29, 1931 - April 09, 2018

Gerald Lanford Mastin was born in Wetumka, OK, on November 29, 1931 to Bob and Jeanette Mastin. Gerald walked into the presence of our Lord on Monday morning, April 9, 2018. Gerald was raised in Okmulgee, OK, where he was the quarterback of the Bulldog's State Football Championship team in 1947. After graduating from High School in Gary, IN, Gerald attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where he majored in Chemistry, lettered in basketball, baseball, and golf, and found the love of his life, Athalea Brown Mastin. They were married in Grandfield, OK, and have been inseparable for over 65 years.
After graduating from OBU in 1953, Gerald was called into military service of the US Army, achieving the rank of Corporal and separating in 1955. After serving in the Army, Gerald earned his Masters in Secondary Education at the University of Oklahoma in 1956. From 1956 to 1967, he served Okmulgee Public Schools as Chemistry teacher and coached football, basketball, golf, and tennis. He also served as a deacon at Okmulgee First Baptist Church. In 1967, Gerald moved his family to Stillwater, where he served Stillwater Public Schools as Chemistry teacher, football, and golf coach, winning a few State Championships in Golf. Gerald became Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Stillwater High, and was named District Administrator of the Year in 1982-83, and served on the Assistant Principals State Committee from 1983 to 1985. While in Stillwater, he earned his Masters of Educational Administration at OSU. He also served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Stillwater.
Gerald retired in 1987 and moved to Rogers, Arkansas, to live near Rocky Branch on Beaver Lake. His retirement was well spent, with golf, fishing, gardening, building, crafting, traveling, singing in the Church choir with Atha, and being a great role model to his sons, and a wonderful Granddad to his grandchildren, and a committed partner to his wife. In 2008, Gerald and Atha moved to Shawnee, OK, where he continued to serve in the Church choir, with Atha, and as a deacon.
Gerald was a kind man, with a great sense of humor. He was a great athlete and loyal to his Alma Mater, OBU. He was consistent, disciplined, organized, and fun. Most importantly, he pointed all who knew him to Jesus.
Gerald leaves behind a wife, Athalea, brother, Dr. Gene Mastin, of Fredericksburg, VA,
(with nieces Julie and Wendy), and Sons: Darrell, with wife Diane, and children Zach (with wife Nikita and son, Walker), and Rachel (with husband Matthew, and daughters, Piper and Elizabeth). Son Ford, with wife Terri and children Linsey, Trevor, and Kaeley. Son Kyle, with wife Ivonne and daughters Alex (and husband Brian) and Nikki. Son Gene, with wife Heather and children Josh (with daughter Kolbi) and Nina.
