Glenn Carl Gillespie, a long time Cushing resident, left this life on September 8, 2017. He was born in Cushing on October 31, 1946 to Don and Mildred Gillespie.
He graduated from Oklahoma Military Academy in 1964, but shares many memories and good times with Cushing classmates and friends during his school years in Cushing.
Glenn was a dedicated worker, having worked for different railroads, followed a family tradition of oil well drilling, but the proudest duties he had were when he became a Cleet certified Law Enforcement Officer. He began his law enforcement career with the Oklahoma State University Police Department. During his 22 years of service, he worked for the Cushing Police Department; Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, Sac & Fox Tribal Police and completed his career with Payne County Sheriff's Department when he retired in 2001 due to medical reasons. He loved the service to others and the brotherhood of fellow officers. During his career, he competed in numerous pistol competitions, winning state championships and being named to the Governor's Twenty.
After 41 years of marriage, he is survived by the love of his life, Lenita (Lewis) Gillespie, one daughter, Victoria Marie White and husband Rick of TN., two sons, James Coy Gillespie and wife, Nikki, Joseph Cole Gillespie and wife, Ashley, grandchildren, Jaden Gillespie, Emersyn Gillespe, Cody Young, Brandon Gillespie. Glenn is also survived by one brother, Joe David Gillespie and wife Betsy of Olatha, Ks., mother-in-law Wilma Lewis, brother and sister-in-laws, Bill and Linda Jester, Jim and Kay Lewis, Tom and Paula Lewis. Also an aunt, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and father-in-law, Clyde Lewis.
He loved his family and friends dearly and unconditionally. Always there to lend a helping hand. He will be missed greatly by his friends and his family who loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Church of God in Yale. Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, Ok.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.
