November 20, 1926 - October 31, 2018

Harold James Tricky West passed away peacefully October 31st, 2018 at Stillwater Medical Center after a brief illness. Known by Jim or, Tricky by his friends. A celebration of Jims life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 10, 2018 at the Primrose Retirement Community in Stillwater.

Harold was born in Ponca City, OK. on November 20, 1926, to Allan C. and Dora (Detlefs) West. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1945. He was drafted into the army in the fall of 1945 and served two years, attaining the rank of corporal and serving as a drill instructor until his honorable discharge in 1947. In 1951 he met and fell in love with his future wife, Margaret Fern Young. This New Years Eve they would have celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Jim excelled at sports and was a 3-sport athlete at Ponca City High School earning letters in football, basketball, and wrestling. He was also a member of the first Conoco Oilers AAU basketball team in 1945 while still in high school. He was an excellent baseball player and played many summers for several amateur teams. In the summer of 1950 he played professional baseball, pitching for the Chanute Athletics of the KOM league. Jim worked for 30 years in the Central Computer Department at Conoco in Ponca City until retiring as a supervisor in 1985. He was a life-long member of the First Christian Church in Ponca City.

In his spare time Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing. Jim was an animal lover and always had a cat for a pet. He was a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and the St. Louis Cardinals. He watched the Sooners and Cardinals on TV as often as he could and was able to go to St. Louis and see his beloved Cardinals play in the 1967 World Series.

The past two years he and Margaret have been living at the Primrose Retirement Community in Stillwater. Hes become known as The Candy Man by making sure everyone got a piece of candy after lunch.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Allan C. West Jr. and one grandson, James Michael Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret of Stillwater; two brothers, George West of Austin Texas and Bill West of Kilgore Texas; one sister, Helen Gingrich of Oklahoma City; one Son, David and wife Jana of Stillwater; one daughter, Jamie Taylor and her Husband Mike of Oklahoma City; one son, Mike West and his wife Connie of Ponca City; six grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either Ponca City Humane Society or Tiny Paws Kitten Rescue of Stillwater in his honor.
