Joanna Fern Savoie

JoAnna "Fern" Savoie, 83 years old, left this world to enter Heaven on July 11, 2019. Her love of family and firm belief in God gave her peace and joy that touched all those who knew her.

Fern was born on July 20, 1935, in New Orleans, to Joseph Octave (deceased) and Beatrice Frankovich Peppo (deceased). One of thirteen children, she grew up in an orphanage after both her parents passed. She later attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA, graduating in 1956. Fern was married to her childhood sweetheart, Lloyd Paul Savoie, in 1956, and they were married for 49 years. She was a loving wife and mother to 5 children.

Fern lived in Burlington, NC for 16 years, and later became a resident of Yukon, OK in 1974. She worked for various nursing homes and hospitals in Oklahoma City, El Reno and Yukon, eventually retiring from Bethany General Hospital in 1992. Her love of nursing was demonstrated not only in her care of patients, but in how she prayed for each person that she cared for.

After retirement, Fern developed a love of square dancing and traveled across the country with Lloyd in their RV, participating in numerous square dance competitions. She also became a fabulous cook, hosting many people at her home with great fellowship and meals. Throughout her life Fern maintained a sweet and simple disposition that won the hearts of many. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiles and giggling, will never be forgotten.

She is survived by three daughters:
Deidre Savoie-James of Austin, TX
Angela McCully and her husband, Paul of Stillwater, OK.
Michelle Coppedge and her husband, Bill of Norman, OK

Her grandchildren:
Seneca, Ashton & Britton Savoie
Ashlin Hetrick (husband Chad), & Pierce McCully
Alisha Anne Reynolds Gill (husband Peter)

and Great-Grand children:

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Savoie; son, Damian and daughter Valerie Reynolds.

Services were held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, located at 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City on Sunday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m.
