Judy's Story

After many adventures with family and friends, Judy Ann Martin Sims died on April 3, 2017 at the age of 74. A Celebration of her life is planned for Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Ripley High School Auditorium in Ripley, Ok.

Judy was born on January 12, 1943 in Cushing to Lawrence J. and Dorothy L. Kosted Martin. Judy graduated from Cushing High School with the Class of 1961. After graduating, she attended Oklahoma State University. Judy was active in Oklahoma State University Varsity sports including field hockey and the rifle team. She received her Bachelor's degree in 1965 and her Masters degree in 1970. Both were in Education.

On August 8, 1965, Judy was married to John J. Sims of Muskogee at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cushing. For the next 42 years, Judy loved being an educator and coach, counselor and administrator in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. She finally retired in 2012 from Ripley High School.

Judy loved spending time with her family including her children David and Michele Sims of Owasso and Derek and Shaunda Sims of Edmond.

She had a very special place in her heart for her three grandchildren Vince Sims and John Sims of Owasso and Ally Sims of Edmond.

Judy is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Tom and Judi Martin of Scottsdale, Arizona, her sister and brother-in-law: Sally and Ray Ewen of Cushing, her sister-in-law and her husband Donna and Glen Coleman of Hinton; her two aunts Bonnie Metcalf of Louisville, Ky and Carol Conway of Shawnee and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as several close friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jim Martin and Henry "Hank" Martin, brother-in-law and his wife: Lewis and Bonnie Sims.
Arrangements are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing with burial at the Lutheran Redeemer Cemetery south of Cushing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to the Lady Elks Scholarship Fund in care of the Cushing/Drumright Elks Lodge 2712, 702 N. Norfolk Road, Cushing, OK 74023.
