L.W. Phillips, age 91 of Stillwater, OK died Friday, September 8, 2017 in an OKC hospital due to post-surgery complications. Terry and Amy Phillips were at his bedside to comfort him. Loyal was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou, and survived by his son Terry and daughter-in-law Amy, son Donald, daughter Alicia and son-in-law Andy Castellanos, and granddaughter Maya Castellanos. Also known as Uncle Loyal, he is survived by the many nieces and nephews he cherished. Loyal served in the Army from 1944-1946 and graduated from Perkins High School after returning from the Asia-Pacific theater. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M where he met Mary Lou, his wife of 56 years, while boarding at her Aunts house. A big baseball fan, he coached his sons t-ball and little league teams, and supported OSU Cowboy Baseball. Known as Phil by his co-workers, he retired from Halliburton in 1986 after working in the oil fields for 29 years. An avid gardener and beekeeper, many friends and neighbors enjoyed a bountiful harvest of vegetables, fruits, and honey as well as fresh flowers from his garden. He was an avid reader and may have devoured as many books as vegetables. May the seeds he planted in this life continue to bear a bountiful harvest.
