Lynn's Story

Lynn Sue Wenig, 64, of Stillwater, OK passed away Wednesday, December 6th after an insurmountable battle with pancreatic cancer. A memorial service and celebration of Lynn's life will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, December 31st, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater.

Lynn was born on January 10, 1953 to John H and Carol (Matthiessen) Wenig in Aledo, IL. She graduated from Philip High School (Phillip, SD) in 1971 as president of the honor society before going on to college at South Dakota State University. There she met her husband Chriswell Hutchens and they married on December 22, 1973 after which she transferred to the University of Missouri at Kansas City to complete her B.S. in Pharmacy. She later had three children: Shelby, Hallie, and Troy Hutchens. After the birth of her children she continued her education by receiving a M.S. in Accounting from Oklahoma State University.

Well known for her enjoyment of all things purple, Lynn found the positive in nearly every facet of life. This may have been one source for her boundless energy, which led to successful careers as both a pharmacist and an accountant; included volunteer work through the Stillwater health clinic, habitat for humanity, and special olympics; and supported and inspired all three children to obtain their Ph.D.'s (and an M.D. too). She was a full-time pharmacist at Stillwater Medical Center for nearly 20 years while acting as accountant to three small businesses in the Stillwater Area. In spite of the demands of these positions, she found the time to spend innumerable hours cheering for her children at sporting events and volunteering her time and expertise toward the Stillwater community.

Lynn is survived by her husband, Chriswell Hutchens; daughter Shelby Hutchens, wife to John Gallagher, of Champaign, IL; daughter Hallie (Hutchens) Wagner, wife to Kyle, of Blain, MN; and son Troy Hutchens, husband to Mary, of Philadelpha, PA; granddaughters Quentin Gallagher, Penelope and Minerva Wagner, and many other caring family and friends. Lynn was preceded in death by her loving parents, John and Carol Wenig.
