Mary O Strong

Mary O. Strong was born on September 16, 1935 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to William L. Simon and Ophelia Jones Simon, leaving this earth on Thursday, March 28, 2019.
She was raised and educated in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School. She later attended Christian College and the University of Oklahoma. She received her LPN license from the Central VoTech in Drumright in 1971. She enjoyed nursing and found her true calling working with patients at Valley Hope in 1974. She worked for Valley Hope on and off since this time, retiring in 2019.
Her spiritual life was ecumenical. She was baptized in the Episcopal Church where she attended Sunday services, followed by Sunday school at the Presbyterian Church and Sunday nights she attended Methodist Youth Fellowship, singing in the choir at the Methodist Church. She later attended the Cushing Christian Church before becoming a Catholic and eventually becoming a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) rounding out her spiritual experience.
Mary O. was very talented with painting and pottery. She will be remembered for her willingness to always help people; she enjoyed spending time with her friends and was very proud of her daughter Courtney. She really knew how to have fun and enjoyed life every day.
She is survived by her daughter Courtney Strong of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and other relatives and her Valley Hope family and her many friends in this community and the state.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Pastor Jim Wilhelm officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hope, P.O. Box 472, Cushing, Oklahoma, in her memory.
