In October 1961, she emigrated to the U.S. with her family when her husband Eric received an invitation to join the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University.
She joined the First Presbyterian Church in 1962 and was an active and faithful member. She served as a Deacon, was active in Presbyterian Women, and sang in the choir for over 40 years. She was a cook and chaperone for several youth trips. She was also a loyal member of the Presbyterian Womens bowling league team.
Mary was one of the four original Mobile Meals drivers and drove until her health prevented her from continuing in 2016.
Mary was a master knitter and in 1977 became the Coordinator for the baby cap program at Stillwater Medical Center, knitting thousands of baby caps herself. She volunteered for over 50 years, primarily in the hospital Gift Shop, donating over 28,000 hours. In 2000, she was the volunteer auxiliary member of the year, and in 2016 she was named SMC Volunteer of the Year.
She was Altrusa Woman of the Year. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, of PEO Chapter U, and worked as an election judge for Payne County. Mary was an avid gardener, enjoyed golf at Stillwater Country Club, and was a keen bridge player. Mary rarely missed an OSU football or basketball game.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Eric, her parents, her twin sister Betsi, and sisters Gwen, Nansi, Gwyneth, and brothers Harold, Doug, and Oliver, and their spouses, and son-in-law Perry Phillips.
She is survived by her son Thomas (Emiy), son Michael (Kathy), and daughter Betsi Phillips. She was affectionately known as Nain (grandmother) to her grandchildren Sarah Phillips Francisco (Cody), Mark Phillips (Dedra), Dylan and Ariana Williams, Bryn Williams, and Great-Nain to her great-grandchildren Katelyn and Christopher Lower, Channing Phillips, Riley and Breanne Francisco. Many nephews and nieces in all parts of the world will also miss her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to First Presbyterian Church Choir Fund, the Stillwater Medical Center Foundation (the Eric and Mary Williams Healthcare Scholarship) and Mobile Meals.
