Robert's Story

Dr. Robert "Bob" Gilkerson, retired dentist, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 in the Stroud Hospital at the age of 75 years.
The son of the late William Gilkerson and Mary Loafman Gilkerson, Bob was born on March 16, 1941 in Clinton, Missouri. He received his early education in Enid, later moving to Springfield, Missouri where he graduated from Central High School. Prior to receiving his doctorate degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City Dental College, he graduated from Southwest Missouri State University.
His dental practice was mostly in the Springfield, Missouri area, until he moved to Cushing where he worked for Dr. Bob Melton in his various locations.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Stillwater. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He had earned his 4th Degree Black belt in "Tae K won Do" and he enjoyed reading. He was united in marriage to Marian Shiever on January 2, 2010.
He is survived by his wife Marian of the home as well as his children, Robert "Robby" Gilkerson of Springfield, Missouri and Dr. Jill Gilkerson of Boulder, Colorado; Marian's children, Stephen Shiever and his wife Tracy of Alva, Oklahoma, Matt Shiever and his wife Trish of Olatha, Kansas, and Mitch Shiever and his wife Jan of Edmond, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Newman of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and other relatives and friends, including Dr. Bob Melton and his wife Kathy, whom he considered family.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church (504 South Knoblock) in Stillwater with Pastor John Wackle, officiating and assisted by Pastor Mark Duer of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Cushing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church building fund in Stillwater; the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Cushing or the Cushing American Legion.
The family will greet friends on Thursday evening, November 17, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, east of the Funeral Home.
