Events

Teresa Tanner died on March 26, 2019 in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of 85. Services are set for 10:00 am, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Church with interment following at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral and Cremation is in charge of the service.

Teresa was born to John and Alice (Pierce) Kerntke on June 2, 1933 in Banner, Oklahoma. She spent most of her growing-up years in Agra, Oklahoma, where she met and married Everett "Bud" Tanner and they married in Cushing, Oklahoma on October 29, 1951. Teresa and Bud lived most of their lives in the Stillwater, Glencoe and Pawnee areas enjoying dancing, camping and fishing together. She operated and owned two restaurants, worked at Oklahoma State University and retired from the University of Oklahoma. At the time of her retirement, she returned to the Pawnee and Stillwater area. She loved to play bridge at the Stillwater Senior Center and the Brentwood Clubhouse and looked forward to bridge days and the wonderful friendships she had formed through playing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sons Stephen Ernest Tanner and Arthur Lee Tanner.

She is survived by two children John Allen Tanner (Betty) and Katherine (Kathie) Tanner and daughter-in-law Dale Tanner. Also surviving are grandchildren Cassandra Tanner Smith, Alena Tanner Giroux (Damon), Eric Tanner, Shaun Tanner, Jimmy Tanner, Brian Crabtree, and Dianah Lay (Brian) 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Siblings Tommy Kerntke, Joanne Kerntke Brown, Carolyn Kerntke Schwabe, Jeannie Kerntke Hawpke and Patsy Kerntke also survive her as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Oh, Kathie, I am SOOO sorry to hear this. I loved getting to see Teresa at Women’s Guild meetings. She is someone who just feels like home. I mean, just down-to-earth and kind and just all around nice to be around. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this loss. The loss of a mom is so rough. I will be praying for you!! And for Teresa’s soul. What a beautiful person.
