Twilla Dean Dirks was the youngest of four born to Henry and Minnie Henneke near Drummond, Oklahoma on March 30, 1929. Twilla was educated at Drummond High School and attended Oklahoma State A & M University. She married her husband Ernest Dirks, in 1950.
Twilla and Ernest moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1950. While a stay-at-home mother she created and operated her own kindergarten, and volunteered as a church Sunday school superintendent. She managed a country club for a number of years and was employed in sales. Twilla was also an accomplished seamstress. While living in Ardmore, she pursued her dream of becoming an artist focusing on oil painting. Twilla moved with her family to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1975 where she was employed as an interior decorator for Ethan Allen for a number of years. She also volunteered for mobile meals in Stillwater. Over the years she continued to enjoy oil painting, especially depicting her beloved Oklahoma landscapes.
In later years, Twilla stayed in touch with family spending lengthy phone calls listening and laughing with them. She enjoyed home visits from her pastor, John Wackler, for spiritual uplifting conversions and communion services.
Twilla was preceded in death by her parents, sister Delois and husband Paul Symons; brother Norman Henneke and wife Holly Henneke; brother Avel Henneke and wife Donna Henneke. Survivors include husband Ernest Dirks, daughter Jean Lee Byrd and husband Jim Cogdell; daughter Cindee Walton and husband Terry Walton; grandson Scott Byrd and wife Trish Long; and granddaughter Breanna Walton.
