Walter J. Owsley, 88, passed from this life on December 19, 2017, in Stillwater, OK. Visitation will be December 27, 2017 with family greeting friends from 7:00-8:30pm at Strode Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Perkins, OK. with Reverend Susan Ross, Reverend Laura Glover. Interment will follow with Reverend Canon Ryan Owsley giving a message at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, located at 1423 Cemetery Rd, Fort Gibson, OK. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Walter was born to Lindsey and Neva Owsley on May 13, 1929 in Blackwell, OK. He was united in marriage to Patsy Jean Owsley on January 25, 1964 in Newkirk, OK.
Walter attended Oklahoma State University and earned a BS in Education. He served in the U.S. Army from July 11, 1952-June 30, 1954. He was a Veteran of the Korea War. He worked as a Physics and Chemistry Teacher at Chilocco Indian School. He subsequently served as an Educational Services Officer for the Department of Defense from where he retired after 20 years of service.
Walter is preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Vera Lowe and Elizabeth Viers; one Step-daughter, Lizabeth Knight.
He is survived by one brother: Lindsey Owsley (Nina) of Tahlequah, OK. One son; Kenneth Owsley (Dava) of Broadlands, VA; one stepson, Vince Terril of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; one daughter, Leslie Owsley-Hinson (Donald) of Rapid City, SD; eight grandsons, Ryan, Daniel, Nathan, Brian, Drew, Maxwell, Lionel and Benjamin; two great- grandchildren, Olivia and Carson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
