Yvonne's Story

Yvonne Harriett Evatt
1919-2018

Yvonne H. Evatt, 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2018. She was born in Fairfax, OK on July 29, 1919, to Robert Delmer Colombe and Myrtle Cook Colombe. She attended several elementary boarding school before graduating from Fairfax High School in 1936. After high school Yvonne attended Oklahoma Womens College in Chickasha, Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, the University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University. On June 25, 1938, Yvonne married the love of her life, Garland Evatt. They moved from place to place while Garland worked in the oil fields before settling on their farm in Osage County. She was a dedicated homemaker and devout Christian. She and Garland moved to Stillwater, OK to be close to their daughter. Eventually, after becoming widowed, Yvonne moved with her daughter, Ann to Checotah, where she has lived as the matriarch of the Evatt family for the past nine years. She loved working at the Methodist Mission with all her friends, studying for her Sunday school class, and taking care of her asparagus patch. Yvonne was a giving person who regularly supported Baptist charities and Samaritans Purse. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Yvonne was preceded in death by husband, Garland P. Evatt; her parents; sons, Jerry Evatt and Jimmy Evatt; and grand-daughter, Stacy Evatt; great grandson, T.J. Harry. She is survived by children, Lynne Ann Evatt Villines and husband Bill of Checotah, OK, Melody Kay Evatt Parks and husband Johan of Stockton, CA; daughters-in-law, Carol Evatt and Ona Faye Gregg; brother, Robert N. Colombe of Tonkawa, OK; sister, Helen Myers of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Donna Barden, Jerri Lynn Seale, Ward Evatt, Kent Evatt, Connie Goad, Jami Turner, Lynne Cunningham, Tina Keener, Erynne Oblak, Randal Villines, Laura Rumler, Lisa Parks, Larry Parks; great grandchildren, Alexandra Golden Emily and Miles Turner, Rylan and Madilynne Villines, Nicole Stabb, Trent Harry, Chevella Bullington, Christian and Macy Keener, Evatt Eyan, Alynne Holmstrom, Jack Frame, Brady and Casey Goad, Dustin Barden, Rudonna Bailey, Brooke Dewitt, Samuel and Paige Seale, Hayden and Lilly Evatt, Holly, Bree and Jay Evatt, Elias and Megan Rumler, Luliana, Lexie and Logan Parks; great-great grandchildren, Myleigh Golden, Lauren and Benjamin Bailey, Lucy Barden, Brynlee Evatt, Jason and Cale Goad, Aspyn and William Harry and Allee Harry.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Yvonne Evatt will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Checotah, OK. Burial will follow at 4:00 pm at the Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, OK with Brady Goad, Ward Evatt, Kent Evatt, Larry Parks, Miles Turner and Randal Villines serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Villines, David Turner, Casey Goad, Hayden Evatt and Curtis Blocker.
