Alice's Story

Text size

Alice Maurene Griggs peacefully died in her sleep on February 21, 2017. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born on May 9, 1920 in Dallas, Texas to Jesse and Ethel Fallis. Most of her childhood was spent in Tulsa with her father, step-mother, brother, and two sisters, but she returned to Dallas to be with her mother and step-father, James Fallis. They were a source of love and help to her until their deaths.
Alice spent most of her life in Dallas cooking and cleaning, creating a beautiful and loving environment for her family. She loved everyone and left a lasting impression due to her beauty, sweetness, and friendliness.
After many years as a homemaker, she enjoyed sales and clerical positions for various employers, including Home Interiors, Luzier Cosmetics, Titche's, Ling Temco Vought (now Lockheed Martin), the Dallas Trade Center, and Burlington Coat Factory.
Her marriage to George Welsh resulted in a son, James, born on July 29, 1948, and a daughter Leila, born on October 3, 1949. She never wavered in her devotion to them and has loved her grandchildren with the same intensity.
Alice moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 2003 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Shirley Fallis; daughter and son-in-law Leila and Craig Beeby; Leila's daughter and her husband Andrea and William Andrews and William's children and grandson; Leila's son Kenneth Poppe III and his girlfriend Kelsea Plantt; Craig's daughters and their husbands Tricia and Adam Harjo and Kay and Michael Worthington; and their children.
