Funeral services were held at 10 am Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Olive Baptist Church for Betty Sue Yokum. Pastor Tyler McDowell officiated. Vocal selections were sung by Stuart Lujan and Joey Johnson, Serving as casket bearers were Marcus Burchett, Mathew Burchett, Seth Lujan, Barry Hedgcoth, Ryan Wellman and Michael Hedgcoth, Stuart Lujan and Mathew McClaran. Interment was at the Spears-Neugin Cemetery, Hulbert, Oklahoma at 3 pm. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Don Smith Funeral Home.
Betty was born July 19, 1931 at Carthage, Missouri, daughter of the late Marvin and Marie Staats. Betty and Gilbert Clifton Yokum were united in marriage April 10, 1953 in Tulsa. They had made their home in Olive, since moving their in 1988. Betty was a member of the Olive Baptist Church and had been a 4-H Leader in Tulsa County for a number of years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; sons, Russell Lynn Yokum and G.W. Yokum and her daughter, Suzanne Marie Wiese. Betty died May 17, 2017 at the age of 85 years.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Stuart Lujan, Drumright; her brother, Bob Staats, Kansas City; her sister, Mary Ward, Titusville, Florida; grandchildren, Seth Lujan and wife, Marlie, Sara Hedgcoth and husband, Barry, Paige Wiese, Tori Wellman and husband, Ryan, Michael Wiese, Chandra Keener and Cheryl Gideon and five great-grandchildren.
The family has requested that memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
