She was born on June 17, 1917 to William and Sarah McGuire in Sumner, Oklahoma. She married Solomon (S.T.) Bentley on April 3, 1937.
Doris excelled in her schooling and graduated from Coyle Public Schools in 1935 at the age of 16. From her marriage Doris raised two beautiful children, Glennda and Tom. She worked the land with her husband in corn fields during the hot summer days and never once complained. Her strength to keep going when things got tough was a trait that was admired by her children every day of her life.
She worked for two grocery stores in Stillwater and later worked in the Coyle Public Schools cafeteria. She had a passion for cooking, gardening, and canning vegetables. She also raised chickens and sold eggs to the Stillwater Hatchery. Her two favorite pastimes included quilting and playing Dominos. Doris enjoyed watching, "The Price is Right and The Wheel of Fortune" on the television. Her family was always dear to her and she loved when her kids and grandkids would come to visit her.
In 2005 after Doris suffered a stroke the same strength she had while working those fields shined brightly once again. Through endless sessions of physical therapy Doris regained the ability to walk, talk, and dress herself again. She never once uttered a word of complaint to her family. She had a heart of gold and a mind of steel.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Solomon Bentley; father; William McGuire; mother, Sarah McGuire; son-in-law, Leon Bateson; brothers, Wilbur McGuire, Willard McGuire, and Lynn McGuire; half-brother, William McGuire; sisters, Wilma Smalley, Suzanne Wolfe, and Anna Sparks.
