George's Story

Text size

George Hancock Morgan passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017. He was born on February 5, 1935 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he survived flood, fire, and tornadoes while growing up on a farm with his family.
He attended Tahlequah Senior High and then went on to get his B.S. in Chemistry at Northeastern State College. George met Vivian Aingworth Morgan, his wife of 61 years, during his time at college. They married January 28, 1956 and after graduating from Northeastern, moved to Lake Jackson, Texas where George worked as a chemist for Dow Chemical Company.
After spending several years in Texas and having 4 kids, George and Vivian decided to return to his Oklahoma farming roots, moving to Stillwater where George attended OSU and worked as an agronomist for OSU for 30 years.
George enjoyed working in his garden, constructing beautiful flower beds and growing incredible veggies the entire family enjoyed. He was a crafter and a collector, creating thousands of Christmas ornaments and gifting them to family and friends, wove macramé accessories, and amassed an extensive collection of vintage tins and unique stamps. He was an awesome Pawpaw, letting his grandkids play in his garden, pretending to be an elephant and giving them rides around the living room, and showing everyone how to properly use a pocket knife safely.
George is survived by his wife, Vivian Aingworth Morgan; his children and their spouses James Morgan (Eve) and Ruth Gelsey (Jon); his siblings Dr. C.T. Morgan and Katherine Dyer; as well as his grandchildren Marie Morgan (Ryan Besterwitch), Jameson Morgan, Nathaniel Morgan, Katherine Gelsey, and Elinor Gelsey. He was pre-deceased by his parents Charles and Nannie Ruth Morgan, his children Mary Katherine Morgan and John Charles Morgan, and his brother Omar John Morgan, M.D.
Services for George will be held at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater at 1:00pm, Saturday, February 4th. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation at 825 Northeast 13th St. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104.
