Glen's Story

Text size

At the age of 9 Glen Miller accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at First Baptist Church in Tulia, Texas. Because of that simple act of faith many years ago, his family, though grieving at his passing, can now rejoice that he is safely home in Heaven with his LORD and with countless others he loved that have gone on before him. What a joyful reunion that must be!

Glen Burrow Miller was born April 1, 1947 in Lubbock, Texas to Everett and Leota Miller. He was raised on the family farm near Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1965. After high school he received his BS degree in geology from Baylor University and his MS degree in soil science from Texas Tech University.

In 1973 he married Carol Diane Currie in Tulia, and a year later started his career that would span 35 years as a geologist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Over that stretch of time he and Carol made their home at a number of Texas cities including Lamesa, Lubbock, Bonham, Ft Worth, Crowley, San Marcos, and Hewitt before moving on to Oklahoma in 1989. They lived a short while in Chickasha, followed by many wonderful years in Stillwater. In 2014 the family made their final move to Guthrie.

Although Glen was initially diagnosed as being terminally ill in 2008, the original few months he was given to live turned into several years largely due to the prayerful, loving support of his family and many dear friends.

He truly fought a good fight and kept the faith. The last 3 years of his life he was totally bedridden, and yet all who came to visit him at our home were continually amazed at his pleasant attitude, his calm spirit, and his unwavering interest in those things dear to his heart--especially Baylor Bear football AND the precious twin boys whom we never thought Glen would even live to see. But, praise God, he did, and those 2 little guys sat with him many, many enjoyable hours on his hospital bed, watching Paw Patrol and Sesame Street, while punching buttons on his iPad. Asher and Beau, our miracle babies, loved their 'PawPaw' so very much!

Glen is survived by his wife, Carol, their two daughters: Brittany Miller of Troy, IL and Trevi and her husband Ray Holland, and two grandsons, Asher and Beau Holland all of Guthrie. Other survivors include two brothers, Dr. Gary Miller of Allen, Texas and Dr.mKen Miller of Amarillo, Texas, and one sister, Brenda Shepherd of Canyon, Texas.

The family would like to thank Companion Hospice for their exceptional care at the end of Glen's life, and most especially we would like to thank Kim DuBois of Companion whose loving care added to Glen's life immeasurably.

Glen went Home to be with the LORD on Sunday, July 23rd, 2017.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 27th, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at www.hayesfh.com
