Professor Evan's Story
Professor Evan Alva Tonsing died at the age of 77, Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Saint Francis Hospital, Tulsa Oklahoma, of complications due to pneumonia. He was born June 21, 1939, in Valley Falls, Kansas, to parents the Rev. Ernest Frederick Tonsing, of Atchison, Kansas, and Dorothy Louise Peterson, of Falun Kansas. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Ernest F. Tonsing, of Thousand Oaks, California, and cousins, Chester Peterson Jr., of Lindsborg, Kansas, Dorothy Denton Linn, of Bethany, Oklahoma, Jon Denton, or Mustang, Oklahoma, Rebecca Chaky of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Richard Tonsing, of Sacramento, California.
Evan Alva Tonsing will be laid to rest in a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 19, in the Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery, alongside his parents and near his Swedish immigrant ancestors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Evan A. Tonsing Music Scholarship at Kansas University. Memorials may be sent in care of Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, Kansas 67456.
