Roger's Story

Roger Dean Bastion, 76, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00a.m. to 8:00p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Country Side Baptist Church with Pastor Elijah Dally officiating. Interment will follow at Olivet Cemetery, Perkins, Oklahoma. Palmer Marler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Roger was born on March 1, 1941 in Garber, Oklahoma to Carl and Lucille (Johnson) Bastion. Roger grew up in Garber and Covington and graduated from Covington High School in 1959. After high school Roger married Sharon "Sherri" Henry on March 1, 1961 in Perkins, Oklahoma. They have two children, Jeffrey and Leslie.
Roger joined the Stillwater Police Department in 1965 and retired in 1987. After he retired he started working for the City of Stillwater as the Lake Ranger at Lake McMurtry from 1989 to 2008. He was also in the Army National Guard for six years.
He loved working as the Lake Ranger at Lake McMurtry. He loved to fish and loved spending time around the lake being in the outdoors and seeing the many different species of wildlife. The best thing in Roger's life was his wife, children and grandchildren. He was very proud of each one of them.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Lucille Bastion, two brothers James and Grover Bastion.
Roger is survived by his wife Sherri, of the home, his son Jeffrey Bastion, his daughter Leslie Thompson and her husband Neal; grandchildren Libby Thompson and her husband Brent, Tanner Pendleton, Macy Dally and her husband Elijah, Will Pendleton, Kaylea Bastion and Justin Bastion; great grandchildren Keller Dally and Drake Thompson. He is also survived by two sisters, Arthelia Bridges and Virginia Sandlin.
