When Sue Collington was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she had a quick answer.
When she would tell this story she said that God truly tested her. After getting married to George F. Collington Jr. during his junior year at Oklahoma State University, it took 10 years before they had their first child, Jason. Sixteen months later, daughter, DeAnn, was born.
With her two children and back home in Oklahoma after years in Ohio, Sue felt like she had everything she ever wanted. And because of that, she was always grateful, never one to talk about what she didn't have. She knew she was a lucky person and that gave her an amazing attitude that helped her through so many things.
Sue died Wednesday, May 24, at the age of 71, after five years of suffering from the effects of Parkinson's disease. Her service is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Perkins, Okla. She will be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater.
She is survived by her husband, George, and her children, Jason Collington and DeAnn Lane; daughter-in-law Kristi Collington; son-in-law Derek Lane; and grandchildren Donlee and Drayden Lane and Kellon Collington. Also brothers J.W. Herring of Dallas; Johnny Herring and wife, Barbara, of Perkins, Okla.; Tommy Herring and wife, Judy, of Tipton, Okla.; Rex Herring and wife, Candy, of Hurst, Texas; sister Betty Broyles of Sapulpa, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernard Laverne "Barney" and Lois Lee (Powers) Herring; brother, Laverne Herring; sisters-in-law Eileen Herring, Eulene Killion and Carleen Herring; and nephews Scott Herring and Braden Osborne.
