Tia Jauana Rue (Futrell) Platt was born on March 04, 1927 to Laudell J. & Mayme (Noland) Futrell in Paoli, OK. She grew up in Paoli and graduated from Paoli H. S. in 1944. She attended OK A&M. in Stillwater, OK, for 3 years, where she met and later married Joseph Edwin Bill Platt on June 07, 1947. They moved to OKC for 2 years, then to Ponca City, OK, for 9 years, where two sons, Stephen William (2/14/50) and Gary Alan (12/21/1953), were born. In 1958 the family moved back to Stillwater and she enrolled at OSU, graduating in 1959. Tia passed peacefully in Riverton, WY, on September 30, 2017. Her husband Bill Platt, former KSPI Sports Broadcaster and Voice of the OSU Cowboys at the time, preceded her in death in 1997.
Tia is survived by her two sons, Gary Allen (Bradenton, FL) and Stephen William (Lander, WY); two daughters-in-law, Mary Louise and Patricia Ann; two sisters Dorthea Boston (OKC) and Wilma Minyen (Norman); four grand-children: Dustin (wife Jennifer), Christopher (wife Alisia), Mary Kathrine (husband John), and Stephanie, all Platts; and two great-grandchildren Daxton and Jasmine.
Tia was a substitute teacher in the Stillwater Public School System for almost 3 decades and was an avid golfer.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church at 2 pm Wednesday October 11, 2017, followed by internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Following internment, a reception will be held in the basement at Town Hall & Social Club (old Katz Dept. Store) at 701 S. Main St., Stillwater (405-533-3535).
