Tommy Elwood Smith, 88, passed away on July 18, 2017, in Oklahoma City, OK. The funeral service will be held at Ripley Church of God in Ripley, OK, on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 10 a.m Pastor Steve Jordan will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ripley, OK. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Tommy was born on December 11, 1928, to Marvin and Inez (McGraw) Smith in Hammond, IN. Tommy married Sarah Schwartz on February 7, 1948 in Hammond, IN. He and Sarah divorced and on December 14, 1997 he married Leona Dale in Munster, IN.
Tommy attended Hammond Public Schools. Upon finishing school, he began working for Magnesium Company and later worked for Simmons Corporation where he designed hospital furniture and beds. In April of 1977, he opened and owned Hometown Plumbing where he worked until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Sarah and Leona; one brother, Melvin Smith; four sisters, Iona Funk, Shirley Aumiller, Margaret Thompson, and Marvinetta Cionta.
Tommy is survived by daughter Patricia (Harold) Moore of Ripley; son Tommy (Charlotte) Smith of Stillwater; two grandchildren: Thomas Patrick (Alaine) Smith; Jennifer Lynn (Jimmy) Matheson; two step-grandchildren: Sarah (Byron) Jones and Renee (Allen) James; four great grandchildren: Sean and Brock Smith; Aaron and Morgan Matheson; five step-great grandchildren: Jonathan, Tyler and Ethan James; Joshua and Kimberly Jones; four great great grandchildren; two brothers Melton "Mick" and Delbert "Skip" Smith; and two sisters Alma Witthoeft and Janet Cumley.
