Virgina Leigh Jafek Emmons, 95, died on January 24, 2017 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery with Mike King and Sonny Emmons officiating. Strode Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
She was born in her family's broom shop on December 30, 1921, to John Sherrod Leigh and Mary "Nettie" Kirby in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was related to many early Stillwater families, such as the Kirby, Nichols, Hesser, Ham, Lafollette and Bilyeu clans. As a child of the Depression, she traveled throughout the country with her family picking fruits, vegetables and cotton but always returned to the Stillwater area. She attended Eureka Schools and graduated from Stillwater High School. She was a homemaker and worked at Sears, Montgomery Ward and Woolsworth. She was a member of Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
She was a part of the Home Demonstration Club and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and raising Black Angus cattle; she loved watching westerns and OSU football.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Emil Jafek and Earl Emmons; grandson, John Elgin Jafek; brothers, Bill Leigh, Wilbur Leigh, Jim Leigh, H.B. (Peck) Leigh, Kirby Leigh; sisters, Valla Cawley and Peggy Bennett and step-son, Brad Emmons.
She is survived by her son, David Jafek and his wife, Mary Etta; step-daughter, Robin Reece and her husband, Disney; three grandchildren, Jenny Jafek-Jones and her husband, Matt Lorenz; Rachel Reece; Jason Reece and wife, Suzie and six great grandchildren, Hayley and Seren Jones, Emma and Abby Lorenz , Trey and Cade Reece.
