Frank G. Steindl Obituary

Frank George Steindl, the son of Frank and Anna Steindl, who emigrated from Bavaria in the late-1920s, was born in Chicago on August 26, 1935. He graduated from DePaul Academy (1953) and DePaul University (1957). He received an A.M in Economics from the University of Illinois (1958) and a PhD in Economics from the University of Iowa (1963). He served for eight years in the Naval Reserve.


He joined the Economics faculty at Oklahoma State University in 1962 where he progressed to Regents Professor of Economics and Ardmore Professor of Business Administration, retiring in 2004. He published over fifty articles in professional journals along with twenty-five book reviews. His two books were Monetary Interpretations of the Great Depression and Understanding Economic Recovery in the 1930s.


He served at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and the United States Senate, Committee on the Budget. He was a Visiting Professor at University of Munich, University of Bamberg, Brown University, London School of Economics, and University of Iowa.

He was a Scout Master and President of the St. Francis Xavier School Board. His interests included Cubs baseball, his 1962 Triumph TR3, wood working, running, and camping and hiking in National Parks with his family.


He is survived by his wife of 63 years Joyce, his sons David (Patti), Andrew (Cyndee), and Matthew (Katie), grandchildren, Alayna, Sarah, Andrew, Caitlyn, Casey and Teagan, great grandchildren Andrew III and Aleks and sister Betty.


An informal visitation at Strode Funeral Home will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31st followed by a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1st at St. Francis with burial following in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
