Idamae Mattheyer Obituary

Pratt, Kansas - Idamae Mattheyer was born February 21, 1925, in Elk City, Oklahoma to James R Ewing & Marie Weathers Ewing. Idamae died on June 25, 2025. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Jack Mattheyer, her parents, one sister, Ona Frances Gillaspy; and her son-in-law, Gregg Wade.


Idamae is survived by her daughters, Martha Lee Wade and Mary Frances Mattheyer; two grandchildren, Mary Helen Mattheyer and William Wade; one great grandchild, Oaksen Wade, one sister Mary Ellen Wall, and seven nieces and one nephew.


Idamae was active in the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ her whole life. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at the Stillwater Medical Center and Elite Repeat in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was a long-time member of American Businesswomen's Association, Christian Women's Fellowship and Stillwater Travel Club. Idamae was a member of American Business Womens' Association and served two terms as president.


Idamae was a licensed insurance agent and worked for Weather's Insurance Agency,

Alred Insurance Agency and Houck Insurance Agency totaling 30 years.


A lifelong Christian, Idamae loved her church and her church family. She had been an active member since moving to Stillwater from Liberal, KS, in 1968. She served on the wedding reception committee, belonged to Ruth circle, became a deacon, and rarely missed singing in the choir. She also completed two courses of the Menninger Bible Study. In May 2019, Idamae was honored as a Valiant Woman by Church Women United.


Idamae loved to travel and enjoyed family trips to Mexico, England, the Holy Lands, New Mexico, Colorado, and New England, plus numerous sites in the US with Stillwater Travel Club. She was an avid reader with subscriptions to several newspapers and made weekly trips to the Stillwater Public Library. She loved to crochet and in addition to items for family and friends, she also donated her handmade prayer shawls.

Idamae never knew a stranger, making friends of all ages wherever she went. She is also known far and wide for her dry sense of humor.


A Celebration of Idamae's life will be held at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Stillwater, OK, July 31, 2025, at 1:00 pm with reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. Cremation has taken place, and Idamae will be buried in Chandler, Oklahoma.
