A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Born on June 2, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Jana was the third child of Amy Joan and Leon Milless Goff's four children. Jana lived a life full of love and dedication to her family and community. Jana graduated from Drumright High School in May 1971. She married Steve Collins on August 18, 1972. They were married for 18 years. Together they had three children: two sons, David and Eric, and a daughter, Amy.
Jana returned to school in the early 1990s and attended Oklahoma State University, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees. During that time, she met Jacob Hair, otherwise known as "Doc," and began working at his research lab, Nu-Era Farms, in Stillwater. Jana and Doc formed a bond that turned into over 20 years of love and companionship until his passing in 2015.
In 1997, she began working at Morrison Elementary School as a special education teacher, and this is where Jana found her passion in helping students reach their potential. After pursuing further graduate work, Jana became a school psychologist and later worked for Stillwater Public Schools, where she retired in 2016.
Jana's career as a teacher and school psychologist brought her much joy and fulfillment through many beautiful friendships she made with her colleagues, as well as numerous opportunities to see her students grow into successful adults. She loved being an educator, but her favorite job was being "Nana" to Trenton, Ellis, and JW. Each of her grandchildren will tell you she knew exactly how to make them smile and there is no limit to what she would do for the people she loved.
Jana was known for her kind heart and generous spirit. She devoted much of her life to helping others, always ready to lend a hand or provide a listening ear. Her kindness touched the lives of many, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Throughout her life, Jana was an avid gardener, finding joy in creating beautiful gardens around her home and teaching her daughter the tricks of the trade. She was always so patient with answering phone calls from her daughter to help figure out which plants would be best in certain tricky areas of her Lubbock landscape. Jana was also a talented cook, and her potato soup could heal anything from a broken heart to a case of the flu. Jana's gentle, kind spirit and quiet strength made her an easy person to love and always inspired those around her to be better people.
Jana is survived by two children, three grandchildren, two siblings, and numerous friends who will miss her dearly. She taught us all how to be selfless, humble, and kind. Jana always put her loved ones' needs before her own and did so joyfully and with love. Her life touched so many others and she left her mark on this world everywhere she went.
