N/A - Joyce Barnes passed away on May 1, 2025. She was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1936. She graduated from Shawnee High School and the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) sorority.

She married Jim Barnes in 1957 and was flexible and graceful across dozens of relocations during his military career. When he retired in 1981, they established a home in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

In countless ways, Joyce expressed deep love for her family. She prioritized their needs, supported their growth, empathized with their challenges and celebrated their milestones. She also had a special affection for animals and welcomed pet dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes (often several at once!) as beloved family members.

A devoted Christian Scientist, Joyce served as a Christian Science nurse and a Christian Science practitioner. Following a banking training program at Meridian Technology Center, she was employed by Stillwater National Bank. For many years, she also worked at The Specialty Shoppe in downtown Stillwater.

Throughout her life, she was a selfless volunteer, including with the Board of OSU Friends of Music, KOSU radio, and Stillwater Meals on Wheels, and she was actively engaged in the local Stillwater P.E.O. chapter and her KKG alumni association.

A fan of bluegrass, Joyce rarely missed a Byron Berline concert in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Her zest for life and new experiences energized others, and she brightened every room with her sparkly personality. She often introduced herself like this: "My name is Joyce, as in Rejoice!"

She is survived by her husband Jim, daughters Susan Korthals and Kathryn Barnes, and son Tom Barnes, as well as by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
