Leda Yvonne Stites Obituary
Morrison, OK - Leda "Yvonne" Stites, age 82, of Morrison, Oklahoma, peacefully joined her Heavenly Father on April 22, 2026.
She was the daughter of Lebern Henry Vett and Ruby Mavis Chapman Veit Yvonne was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma on April 10, 1944.
Yvonne spent her childhood in Morrison, Oklahoma and attended Morrison Public Schools. Yvonne's dad, Lebern, was overseas serving World War Il when she was born. He was allowed leave for two days in the states, returned to the service, and came home when she was one year old.
Yvonne loved spending her summers visiting her grandparents, John end Lennie Chapman, in Perry and Pawnee, traveling by train as her granddad worked for the railroad.
She met the love of her life at Yost Lake in Stillwater. Yvonne and Ronald "Rusty" Stites were married December 31 , 1960. Of this marriage three children were born: Sherri, Ronnie and Troy.
Yvonne and Rusty began their life in Stillwater, moving to Morrison in 1966. They would make their home in Morrison raising their children, until moving to Renaissance Memory Care in Stillwater in 2026.
Yvonne loved learning and continued her education through Indian Meridian Vo-Tech and NOC. She found her love and passion to be in the medical field beginning in nutrition with Perry Memorial Hospital, receiving certification for nurse's aide, receptionist for Dr. James Carley of Stillwater, intake staff with the Noble County Health Department, and finishing as a Case Manager for the Payne County Health Department Eldercare Program. Yvonne was honored to serve this program. She loved assisting the elderly in finding programs to allow them to remain home. The women she worked with became family and she loved them all dearly.
While Yvonne was employed with the Noble County Health Department, she was presented a plaque by Governor Henry Bellmon in August, 1990, during Oklahoma Homecoming Events at the Lazy E Arena for outstanding contributions during the five years she was employed by the Noble County unit. She actively worked with other members of the state to promote community awareness to affect passage of a one-mill tax levy that allowed Noble County to keep its health department. During this time, she also served as a member of the Adolescent Advisory Board and the Red Ribbon Committee as well as chairman of the Communities Reaching Out When Needed for two years.
In October, 1992, while serving the Payne County unit, Yvonne, along with two additional area social service providers, was instrumental in bringing awareness to the vast number of individuals with no financial ability to access or maintain health care as well as the great number of elderly on fixed incomes that had to choose between purchasing medicines and other basic survival needs. Because of the dedication of these three women, the Stillwater Community Health Center opened its doors on June 8, 1993. Yvonne's two greatest loves were her faith in her Lord and her family. She loved all things church and bible study. She loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was at every play, sporting event, birthday, and graduation.
Yvonne is survived by her husband, Rusty, of Renaissance Memory Care of Stillwater, Children: daughter, Sherri Schieffer and husband, Wally, of Perry; son, Ron, and wife,
Tammy, of Perkins; son, Troy, of Blanchard. Grandchildren: Matthew and Anna Schieffer, Ally Grantham, Carson and Madison Stites. Great grandchildren: Lincoln, Everleigh, Maisyn and Callaway Grantham.
She is also survived by her loving brother, Donnie Veit, and his wife, Valecia, of Morrison, and nieces and nephews that she adored.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Perry, 1922 N. 15th Street, Perry, OK, with Reverend Ron Fike officiating. Lunch will be served and the family would love for you to stay and share your memories of Yvonne.
