Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Margy was born on October 18, 1935, in Memphis, Texas and grew up in Childress, Texas. Margy was the daughter of Richard Malone Hagan and Helen Louise Beard Hagan and the younger of two daughters.
Margy experienced a great loss at the age of 9 in the passing of her mother. Yet this significant event shaped her lifelong traits of compassion and love. In 1953, she graduated from Childress High. After one year at the University of Texas, she transferred to Texas Tech University, becoming a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and graduating with a degree in Business Education.
At age 20, Margy became a young bride to Ed Knox, followed by the birth of daughters Kim and Pam. They lived in Lubbock, TX, Pampa, TX, Altus, Ada and finally settled down in Oklahoma City in 1969. In each of these cities, she was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, including Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. In 1974, she took on the role of both mom and dad, working full time as an administrative assistant. She was completely dedicated to her daughters, always sacrificing for their needs. Kim graduated from OU and Pam from OSU. Margy was a big sports fan for both schools and loved going to football and basketball games with Kim as well as being in the same P.E.O. Chapter. Late in her career, Margy became the director of an assisted living center, a niche that matched her gifts and personality perfectly.
After living in Oklahoma City for 36 years, Margy moved to Stillwater, OK in 2005 to be close to her three beloved grandchildren. Now retired, she became busier than ever, and she thrived! Known as Nanna, she was a frequent taxi driver, an avid volleyball fan and constant lap for Luke to sit on. Margy joined the First Presbyterian Church where she participated as a deacon, Presbyterian Women leader, Stephen Minister and staff person for the Seasoned Adults. Leadership seemed to find her as she also gave her time and energy to P.E.O., the Newcomer's Club and Tri Delta Alumna. Margy enjoyed patriotic music, bridge, Sudoku puzzles, reading and an occasional nap. Over her lifetime she loved and was loved by eight very special dogs.
As a mom and Nanna, she was our biggest cheerleader. As a friend and leader, she was fun, faithful and loyal. Bringing laughter and hugs was her trademark. Margy's ornery personality was with her throughout life and was especially enjoyed by her home caregivers, the staff at Golden Oaks Village and the Hospice crew from Companion Healthcare, all of which we are grateful for their loving care.
Margy was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Fanny Story Hagan and brother-in-law, Ellis Brown of Altus, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her sister, Nelle Brown of Norman, Oklahoma; daughters Kim Croom ( Richard ) of Norman, Oklahoma and Pam Carpenter (Terry) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; her three grandchildren, Luke Carpenter of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Joshua Carpenter (Marcy) of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Sarah Carpenter of Durham, North Carolina; her great-grandson, Knox Carpenter of Ft. Collins, Colorado; her step-grandchildren, Jeff Croom of Norman, Oklahoma and Melissa Walker (Zach) of Frisco, Texas; her step great-grandsons, Caleb Walker and Nathan Walker of Frisco, Texas; as well as her nieces and nephew, Melanie Hall, Judy Warren, Leslie Briscoe and Paul Brown and their families.
Memorials may be made in memory of Margy to MPower, Inc. (Luke's daytime support and provider.) Their address is P.O. Box 1509, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74076.
